Funding for Unaccompanied Homeless Youth

comparisons adjusted for inflation (CPI)

This program provides housing and support services to youth and young adults up to age 24 who are homeless and are not in the custody or care of a parent or guardian.

The Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) will create a network of organizations and agencies to provide housing and other supports to help homeless, unaccompanied youth. These youth become homeless for a variety of reasons: some have escaped abuse; some have aged out of the state’s foster care system without finding a permanent home; some have been abandoned for reasons such as coming out as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. Because of their circumstances, many of these youth engage in risky behavior simply to survive and have multiple and complex needs. Through this program unaccompanied youth will receive housing assistance and other services based on their individual needs. Housing assistance can include placing youth with extended family, providing them with short-term housing benefits or placing them in shelter. EOHHS will also provide these youth with additional supports including counseling, mental health, health care, education, and employment training.
