Boston Tea Party Anniversary: The Fight for Tax Fairness Continues

Over 250 years after the Boston Tea Party: Let’s build a Commonwealth where tax fairness isn’t a dream, but a reality!
MassBudget links the historic protest to today’s debates over tax fairness and economic justice.

Today marks 252 years since the Boston Tea Party. It was a moment in history where everyday people stood up against an unfair tax system that benefited the rich and powerful at everyone else’s expense. Just as the people of Massachusetts did more than 250 years ago, MassBudget is working to make sure our public policies benefit regular people, not just the rich and billion dollar corporations.

“We must learn from history and work against the injustices of the past. When very wealthy individuals and billion dollar corporations continue to get massive tax breaks while the majority of the population lives paycheck to paycheck, we know there is more work to be done. This economic injustice goes against the very values of Massachusetts’ origins.” said Viviana Abreu-Hernández, President of MassBudget.

“MassBudget works every day to research, analyze, and advocate for policies that build an inclusive and equitable Commonwealth,” Abreu-Hernández continued. “Over 250 years after the Boston Tea Party, we are still struggling to accomplish tax fairness. At MassBudget, we are committed to working alongside our partners to achieve an equitable tax system and build a thriving Commonwealth for all.”
