In 2025, we launched our new series PolicyTALKS! These deep dives, focused on a particular issue area, shared data, discussed existing and proposed solutions, and offered insights from those most directly impacted by decisions.

The first event on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, highlighted current efforts to improve corporate tax fairness and discussed the question: how can the Commonwealth get billionaire corporations to pay their fair share?

The second event in the series took place on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.  Titled “Betting on Green: Are Cannabis and Gambling Revenue Aligning with Public Goals?” the event included the release of two new research papers.

SHOW ME THE MONEY

Nearly a decade after Massachusetts voters legalized recreational cannabis use and sales, we explore the state and local revenue and spending from cannabis sales. The panel will discuss where the revenue is coming from, where it’s going, and if and how it is promoting equity.

PAYOUTS & RISKS IN MA’s GAMBLING REVENUE

Massachusetts casinos, the Lottery, and sports betting generate significant public revenue. Research will be presented, which will look at how public investment of gambling revenue has evolved over time, who pays these dollars, and how current systems impact disparities of income and race. A panel of experts will then discuss the implications and the path forward
