An affordable public higher education system has the power to open up countless opportunities for low-income students and families of all races and backgrounds. Unfortunately, state disinvestment from public higher education has resulted in increased tuition and fees, placing the price burden on students. This, along with high cost of living, leads to more students graduating with higher amounts of debt. Massachusetts can alleviate the student debt crisis in the state by eliminating the need to borrow.
